The anti-corrosion treatment of metallic structures is a very important factor to take into account, as it ensures the correct protection against corrosion, thus extending their useful life.<\/p>\n

Anticorrosive treatment<\/h2>\n

The correct choice and application of an anti-corrosion system<\/a> will ensure that the service life of a metallic element is increased. It should be noted, however, that durability does not equate to a guarantee for a specific period of time. It is more appropriate to equate durability with the “life expectancy” of the coating system.
\nIt is preferable to carry out minor maintenance work in advance in order to achieve the expected service life than to have to carry out major works.<\/p>\n

Anti-corrosion treatment standard<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The UNE-EN ISO 12944 standard also defines corrosion protection systems depending on the environment to which the metal structures are exposed. These protection systems can be composed of one or several layers of paint.
\nOnce the type of environment has been established and the appropriate protection system has been defined, another important factor must be taken into account prior to the application of the system: the preparation of the substrate on which the paint is to be applied.<\/p>\n

Metal structures must be completely clean of dust, oils, grease and rust. This is achieved by hand and mechanical cleaning (St 2 and St 3), blasting (Sa 1, Sa 2, Sa 2\u00bd and Sa 3) and flame cleaning (F1). Blasting or shot blasting also increases the roughness of the steel and therefore allows for better adhesion of the paint to be applied.
\nIf all these factors are not taken into account, pathologies can arise which, depending on the type of environment to which the metal structures are exposed, can cause serious damage in the short term. The most frequent execution errors in corrosion protection are:
\n\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Deficient prior preparation of the metal substrate on which the paint is applied.
\n\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Poor quality of the chosen paints.
\n\u2013\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Not respecting the order of layers in a multi-layer protection system.
